The effect of Polyethylene Glycol on constipation prophylaxis after benign gynaecological laparoscopy: A randomized controlled trial

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to determine whether short-term postoperative administration of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 3350 could reduce constipation rates following benign gynecological laparoscopy. Although the study found a 20% absolute risk reduction in constipation rates at one week post-surgery, this was not statistically significant; however, PEG 3350 was associated with improvements in specific constipation symptoms and was well tolerated by patients.
