Infectious morbidity risk of laparoscopic myomectomy concomitant hysteroscopy: a national surgical quality improvement program (NSQIP) analysis

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to determine whether performing hysteroscopy alongside laparoscopic myomectomy increases the risk of surgical site infections (SSI) within 30 days post-operation. Their analysis of data from the ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program found no significant increase in SSI rates or postoperative urinary tract infections associated with the addition of hysteroscopy, even after adjusting for various risk factors. Thus, concomitant hysteroscopy does not appear to elevate the risk of infectious morbidity in this surgical context.
