Continuous Wrist-Derived Heart Rate Correlates With mYPAS Scores and Detects Between-Assessment Heart-Rate Elevations in Children: A Feasibility Study

The authors aimed to investigate whether continuous wrist-derived heart rate measurements correlate with the modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (mYPAS) scores and to identify heart rate elevations occurring between mYPAS assessments in children undergoing elective surgery. Their findings indicate that heart rate during the induction period is associated with concurrent mYPAS scores, and a significant proportion of heart rate elevations occurred outside the scheduled assessment windows, suggesting the potential for continuous monitoring to enhance understanding of perioperative anxiety. Further research is needed to validate these exploratory findings and explore the integration of continuous physiological monitoring with behavioral assessments.
