INTRATHYROIDAL ECTOPIC THYMUS: THE TRICK OF THE TRADE

The authors aim to characterize intrathyroidal ectopic thymus (IET) in pediatric patients, particularly its clinical, biochemical, and sonographic features, to improve diagnostic accuracy and clinical management. Through a retrospective review of cases, they found that IET often mimics malignant thyroid nodules but can be identified by specific imaging characteristics, which may help prevent unnecessary interventions. Their findings suggest that IET should be considered in the differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules in children, especially those under five years old.
