Prevalence and cardiac outcomes of T wave inversions in high school athletes: an analysis of 15 years of preparticipation screening ECGs

The authors aimed to characterize the prevalence, distribution, and clinical significance of T wave inversions (TWI) in preparticipation ECG screenings of high school athletes. They found that TWI was rare, occurring in only 0.36% of screened athletes, predominantly among black males, and identified a concerning association with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in some cases. This highlights the need for thorough evaluation and ongoing monitoring of athletes exhibiting this ECG pattern.
