Tirzepatide and the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular events: population based cohort study
Listen to this summary
The authors aimed to estimate the reduction in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) associated with the addition of tirzepatide to standard care in patients with type 2 diabetes and established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Their population-based cohort study found that initiating tirzepatide significantly lowered the risk of MACE compared to sitagliptin, with notable reductions in myocardial infarction and infection-related events. These findings suggest that tirzepatide may offer cardiovascular benefits beyond standard treatment, highlighting its potential role in clinical practice.
