Initial postoperative alignment versus long-term outcomes in intermittent exotropia surgery

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to determine whether immediate postoperative esodeviation is linked to better long-term outcomes in children undergoing surgery for intermittent exotropia (IXT). Their analysis revealed that a 1-week postoperative alignment of greater than 7Δ esodeviation significantly reduced the rate of motor recurrence over eight years, although it was associated with a slight increase in problematic esotropia. Overall, achieving a greater degree of esodeviation shortly after surgery appears to correlate with improved long-term success in IXT treatment.
