The Triple Burden of Administrative Tasks Among US Family Medicine Physicians-A Cross-sectional Study

This study aims to describe the prevalence and co-occurrence of administrative burdens faced by US family medicine physicians, specifically focusing on tracking external health information, completing prior authorizations, and documenting clinical care outside regular hours. The findings reveal that a significant proportion of physicians experience substantial administrative burdens, with certain health information technology supports reducing some of these burdens, while the challenge of prior authorization remains persistent despite electronic capabilities. The authors highlight the need for improved interoperability and documentation support to alleviate these ongoing administrative challenges.
