Clinical correlates and predictors of thrombocytopenia in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus: a retrospective cohort study

Listen to this summary

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical implications of thrombocytopenia in pediatric patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and identify associated risk factors. The findings revealed that thrombocytopenia was present in 19.5% of the cohort and was significantly linked to leukopenia, antiphospholipid antibody positivity, and severe organ involvement. The authors suggest that thorough evaluations for antiphospholipid antibodies and neuropsychiatric manifestations are essential in SLE patients presenting with thrombocytopenia.
