Update on clinimetric assessments in juvenile dermatomyositis: conceptual foundations, current tools, and future directions : (Narrative review describing the development, validation, and application of clinimetric outcome measures in juvenile dermatomyositis)
Jun 9, 2026
The authors aim to review the development and validation of clinimetric outcome measures in juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) to enhance disease assessment and management. They highlight the need for multidimensional tools that capture various health domains, discuss current assessment instruments and challenges, and suggest future directions for improving patient-centered evaluations through digital health technologies and biomarkers. Ultimately, the goal is to support precision medicine approaches for better outcomes in children with JDM.
Clinical correlates and predictors of thrombocytopenia in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus: a retrospective cohort study
Jun 6, 2026
This study aimed to evaluate the clinical implications of thrombocytopenia in pediatric patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and identify associated risk factors. The findings revealed that thrombocytopenia was present in 19.5% of the cohort and was significantly linked to leukopenia, antiphospholipid antibody positivity, and severe organ involvement. The authors suggest that thorough evaluations for antiphospholipid antibodies and neuropsychiatric manifestations are essential in SLE patients presenting with thrombocytopenia.
Breaking the storm: canakinumab as salvage therapy for refractory macrophage activation syndrome in pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus-a case report
Jun 5, 2026
This case report investigates the efficacy of canakinumab as a salvage therapy for a 17-year-old female patient with refractory macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) secondary to pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE). After failing multiple treatments, the patient experienced significant clinical improvement and stabilization following canakinumab administration, suggesting its potential as a viable option for patients with biologic-refractory cSLE-MAS. The authors call for further prospective studies to establish optimal treatment protocols for this condition.
