Effectiveness and safety of hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether-mediated photodynamic therapy versus pulsed dye laser for port-wine stain: a retrospective study
Listen to this summary
The authors aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether-mediated photodynamic therapy (HMME-PDT) versus pulsed dye laser (PDL) for treating port-wine stains on the face and neck. Their retrospective study found that HMME-PDT resulted in a higher rate of excellent improvement (41.5% vs. 29.2%) compared to PDL, although it was associated with increased risks of hyperpigmentation and scarring.
