Cardiac Function in Fetal Growth Restriction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to compare cardiac function in fetuses with fetal growth restriction (FGR) to those without it. Their systematic review and meta-analysis of 15 studies revealed that fetuses with FGR exhibited significant alterations in cardiac geometry and function, including smaller sphericity indices and reduced myocardial performance, while certain measures of cardiac output remained unchanged. Overall, the findings suggest that FGR is associated with notable cardiac changes that could impact fetal health.
