Surgical Management of Pelvic Floor Disorders and the Utility of Preoperative Labs

Tara Samsel, Sarah Ashmore, Jinxuan Shi, Kimberly Kenton, Margaret Mueller

The authors aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of preoperative laboratory assessments in women undergoing surgical management for pelvic floor disorders (PFDs), given that current guidelines discourage routine testing. Their retrospective study found that while a significant majority of patients underwent preoperative labs, clinically meaningful abnormalities were rare and did not alter surgical management. The findings suggest a need to reassess preoperative testing policies in light of these results.
