Comparative Outcomes of Fine Needle Aspiration and Core Needle Biopsy for Parotid Masses

The authors aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy and safety of ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) versus core needle biopsy (CNB) for parotid masses. Their findings revealed that CNB outperformed FNA in sensitivity, accuracy, and positive predictive value for detecting malignancy, while also exhibiting a lower nondiagnostic rate, suggesting that CNB is preferable for cases suspicious for malignancy or requiring specific histological diagnosis. Both methods had similar complication rates and time to surgery, indicating that CNB can be safely integrated into clinical practice without additional risks.
