Stability of Transgender Identity in Adolescents Seen in Multidisciplinary Specialized Gender Centers: A Multicenter Study in Canada

The authors aimed to assess the stability of transgender identity among adolescents referred to specialized gender clinics in Canada, focusing on the rates of continued gender identity, use of gender-affirming hormones, and instances of detransition. The study found that 94.6% of the 445 adolescents maintained their gender identity, with only 5.4% reverting to a gender identity aligned with their sex assigned at birth, and discontinuation of gender-affirming hormones was rare, occurring in just 1.1% of cases. These results suggest a high level of stability in gender identity among adolescents in specialized care.
