Compliance with the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Preoperative Checklist in Rectal Cancer Care in Ghana: Gaps and Opportunities for Improvement - A Cross-Sectional Study
Listen to this summary
This study aimed to evaluate adherence to the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons preoperative checklist among rectal cancer patients in two teaching hospitals in Ghana and its association with postoperative outcomes. The findings revealed that while checklist completion varied significantly between hospitals, it did not correlate with postoperative morbidity or mortality. The authors suggest that improving adherence to the checklist and establishing dedicated colorectal units could enhance surgical outcomes and patient survival.
